Why should I join POMAA?
POMAA offers many different benefits to its members. To view all the benefits please click here. POMAA is also unique because the organization's founder and the national advisory board are practice managers that can relate to the everyday challenges of running a medical practice.
Do I have to be a member of POMAA to attend your conferences?
No, you may attend without being a member of POMAA. However you do receive a discount for the conference if you are a member.
Do I need to be a member of POMAA to take the Certified Practice Manager (CPM) exam?
Yes, you must be an active member of POMAA in order to become certified.
What are the requirements for taking the CPM exam?
You must be employed in an administrative capacity within a medical practice for one full year prior to taking the CPM exam.
Do I have to remain a member of POMAA to keep the CPM certification?
Yes, POMAA requires members that have the CPM certification to obtain 12 continuing education units (CEU's) per year in order to remain certified.
If I currently hold another medical office management certification through another organization, do I have to take the CPM exam to become a Certified Practice Manager?
No, POMAA offers CPM reciprocity for members who hold active medical office management certifications. More information is available on CPM reciprocity when you login as a member of POMAA.
When will the specialty certifications be available?
POMAA is currently working on 2 specialty certifications. We hope to have the Human Resource Specialist (HRS) study guide and exam completed by February 28, 2009. The remaining specialty certification will be completed mid 2009.
What are the requirements for obtaining a specialty certification?
You must be a member in good standing with POMAA and hold the CPM certification prior to taking a specialty exam.
How many specialty certifications will POMAA offer?
We are currently working on 2 specialty certifications, however we hope to add more in 2009.
